Tina Kalivas
Trained in Adelaide at Marleston TAFE, Kalivas moved to London in 1994 to further her studies in costume design at the London College of Fashion. She took a position with Alexander McQueen in 1998 when his studio was still relatively small. She left three years later to set up her own label back in Australia, winning plaudits for her clean, simple designs with a science fiction edge. "There's a space travel feel with my designs," she says.
LOVE!
The Australian-based designer is often inspired by faraway cultures and their people. Her current collection—Polyrhythm—mixes recent influences from Afghanistan with a touch of African geometry. Kalivas meticulously folds hand-dyed tribal fabrics into symmetrically printed peplum skirts and structured dresses, turning a tired old trend into one of the best collections of the season.
I already have my picks!! which one are yours?
