Teardrops on Trend

If the Awards Season red carpet is any indication, teardrop-shaped jewelry is a big trend for 2010. From the AMAs to the Golden Globes, Hollywood divas and the stylists who stalk them are choosing the teardrop earring, in particular, to make a statement.

Teardrop-cut stones are a great way to get a big look for less, and Jewelry.com's retail partner, Sears, has several great styles I found that fit both the fashion bill and your budget.

These sterling silver, CZ show-stoppers are priced to bring tears to your eyes at only $59.99. Perfect for formal wear or even jazzing up the proverbial little black dress.

Courtney Cox caused jaws to drop with her black sapphire teardrop Golden Globe earrings, and these smokey topaz/brown diamond danglers give the same look for a lot less.

And how cool is this teardrop necklace made from Champagne crystals and marcasite? Even cooler? The price - at only $89.99. Way to go, Sears!

Golden Globes Fashion Wrap with Carrie Ann Inaba, Nick Verreos, Jen Rade and Lawrence Zarian!

Fashionista Panel: The Golden Globes Edition
Everyone Pose! Jen Rade, Nick Verreos, Carrie Ann Inaba and Lawrence Zarian

On Monday, we filmed our first 2010 installment of our TV Guide Network "Fashion Wrap with Carrie Ann Inaba" where we DISHED on the Golden Globes soppy wet mess of a red carpet. I was so happy to be asked again to join my Fashion Wrap "family" of Hostess-with-the-Mostess, Miss Carrie Ann Inaba (looking great in a Lloyd Klein top), Lawrence Zarian, co-host of "The Fashion Team" and last but not least, my favorite stylist DIVA, Jennifer Rade. You might also recognize Jen from MTV's "Styl'D" reality show where she is the senior stylist at the famed Margaret Maldonado Agency who doesn't mince words when dealing with young wannabe stylists who look like they just got off the "I-don't-wanna-work-I-just-wanna-be-famous" Greyhound bus.
Feliz Cumpleanos: Nick Verreos helps Jen Rade hold her BIG Birthday Cake, TV Guide Golden Globe Fashion Wrap

Speaking of Jen, it was HER BIRTHDAY on Monday so the crew (love the TV Guide crew!!!!) surprised her with a HUGE--and delicious--cake, the minute we wrapped! It was a fun ending to a really great and crazy shoot! And yes, I did chose Drew Barrymore and that Versace Atelier gown as my Best Dressed---sea urchins and all!!! She stepped out on a fashion limb and at least in my eyes, she worked it out! I'm so tired of safe, that's why I was giving props to the Chloe's and the Drew's of the red carpet!

In case you didn't get to see the show, don't fret...

Golden Globes Fashion Wrap with Carrie Ann Inaba and Nick Verreos

Don't forget to tune in TONIGHT for the Golden Globes Fashion Wrap with Carrie Ann Inaba and her esteemed panel of experts including ME!

It is always a great show and we have the best time doing it. Don't Miss It!

2010 Golden Globes Red Carpet Fashion: Who Wore What? Sandra Bullock

One of America's favorite "sweethearts", actress Sandra Bullock--who clinched the Golden Globes Best Actress Award for "The Blind Side" wore a violet iridescent organza gown from the Italian brand, Bottega Veneta Spring 2010 line.

It was strapless and rather sheer. For some reason, it just wasn't one of my favorites. The fabric looked a bit cheap and I am sure it was not. Her make up--especially those "cat eyes"--looked fabulous but her hair seemed a bit "moppy"--I sure it was the result of the crazy unusual Los Angeles rain.

With all that, it might not have been the best Red Carpet moment for Sandy, but how can you not love her anyway!

2010 Golden Globes Red Carpet fashion: Who Wore What? Diane Kruger

Actress Diane Kruger wore a violet pink ombre silk organza gown from bankrupt couturier Christian Lacroix. It is from his Spring 2009 Haute Couture Collection, worth an estimated $45,000. I think she looks chic and very Parisienne, n'est pas?

I'm so excited that someone, either at the now-defunct Lacroix press office--or a well-researched stylist--realized how wonderful it would be to bring some of Lacroix's Couture out and onto the red carpet--as opposed to keeping them in vaults.

2010 Golden Globes Red Carpet Fashion: Who Wore What? Chloe Sevigny

Another favorite of mine was HBO's "Big Love" actress Chloe Sevigny. Chloe is a definite fashionista who takes risks with her red carpet fashion, usually opting for a REAL Vintage Yves Saint Laurent---not one from 2003, thank you very much.

For the 67Th Golden Globe Awards, she wore a Valentino Ready To Wear Spring 2010 design by Alessandra Facchinetti's replacements, Maria Grazia Chiauri and Pier Paolo Piccioli. It was light mauve-nude colored silk gown featuring cascading ruffles from the side to the back. Stunning and very Fashion--with a Capital "F" from the front as well as from the back. Yet still very feminine and elegant. When she walked up on stage, the volants (ruffles) just glided, along with her. C'est Magnifique Chloe!

2010 Golden Globe Awards: Who Wore What? Marion Cotillard

French Actress Marion Cotillard is the new face of Christian Dior. So, in other words, there's no chance you will see her in a designer/brand other than Dior--at least for MAJAH red carpet events. It's in her MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR contract to wear nothing else kiddies.

For the 2010 Golden Globe Awards, Marion wore a deep hunter-green silk one-shoulder gown with a high side-slit featuring a peek-a-boo lace underslip from Christian Dior Spring 2010 by John Galliano. Nothing really changed that much from Runway to the Red Carpet as you can see above, except for the length of that slip...

2010 Golden Globe Awards: Who Wore What? Drew Barrymore

One of my favorites of the night, Drew Barrymore, wore a Versace Atelier (the Haute Couture leg of the Versace Empire) Fall 2009 gown--about 2 years old and probably worth about $50,000. It is made of silk chiffon side-draped over an entire under-corsetted inner-gown and with unusual shoulder and high-hip crystal detailing.

I know that this will be a polarizing gown for many but I LOVED IT!!!!!! I am all for actresses wearing high fashion, especially "experimeantal" ones that might make the more conservative dresser squeal with disdain, Who cares I say! As long as the wearer owns it and the gown works for them. I think it does. Her flawless make-up and hair are the perfect "cherry" on this Versace Atelier "cake". Go Miss Drew! Ti Amo!

2010 Golden Globes Red Carpet fashion: Who Wore What? Nicole Kidman

Statuesque Australian actress Nicole Kidman wore a nude-colored silk charmeuse gown from the House of Nina Ricci by Peter Copping. Copping replaced Olivier Theyskens after he was unceremoniously "let go" by Puig, his bosses.

Copping is a former assistant to Marc Jacobs at Louis Vuitton and this is his first collection. The gown is VERY 1930's with its cowl neckline and bias-cut and reminds me of a gown from a TCM movie from the 1930's that an actress such as Claudette Colbert would wear. It also looks like a gown I would design; in other words: Love it! I would have just removed a few of those side bows...for sure.

2010 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet Fashion: Who Wore What? January Jones

Runway to Red Carpet: January Jones in Lanvin by Alber Elbaz, Spring 2010
"Mad Men" actress January Jones wore a black Lanvin gown to the 67Th Annual Golden Globe Awards. Interestingly enough, it was customized from the original cocktail-length version to a floor-length gown with side slits. I am sure some people might see this as being a bit "too out there" but I liked that she (or her stylist) chose this.

January Jones
is becoming a "fashion gal" in that, especially after the Emmy Awards "futuristic" ivory Versace Atelier gown, she got a mixed reaction: Fashionistas LOVED it while non-fashion folk thought it was "just too much".

"I don't get it" was their general thought. I did get it and I totally get this. I especially "get" the black hair band. She is SO NOW!!! Victoria Beckham: Watch Out, you're not the only one who loves them headbands darling!

2010 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet Fashion: Who Wore What? Meryl Streep

Golden Globes Best Actress Winner Meryl Streep wore a black (a trend color this year?) gown with an asymmetrical off-the-shoulder neckline and one-sleeve. Very directional for her and I praise her for it. The cinched gold-buckled belt creates an hourglass shape, accentuating her waist. Perfectly elegant, yet modern gown for a woman of her stature, demeanor, age and size.
I would guess it is a Donna Karan from the asymmetry of it to the dark wool jersey like fabrication and simple shape. It looks very much like a gown from Karan's Pre-Fall 2010 Collection as seen above in the photo. I think the style Streep chose is modern and effortless. Just like Meryl.
Correction: It turns out this dress was designed by none other than Project Runway Alum Chris March! Congratulations Chris!

2010 Golden Globes Red Carpet Fashion: Who Wore What? Penelope Cruz: 2010 Golden GlobesAwards

Runway to Red Carpet: Penelope Cruz in Armani Prive Spring 2005

2010 Golden Globe-Nominated Best Supporting Actress In A Motion Picture
actress Penelope Cruz wore what she deemed was "Armani Vintage" (or at least that is what she told the NBC Pre-Show). Well, kiddies, it was Armani Prive from his first Haute Couture Collection, Spring/Summer 2005. Only five years old, I might hesitate to call that "Vintage"--I can understand a Vintage Balmain from 1955. But 2005? It was all black and very Spanish in terms of it's tulip "flamenco" Sevillana silhouette and embroidered lace which was reminiscent of a Spanish Mantilla. I liked it. Her hair was flawless (even in the rain) as well as her make-up.

2010 Golden Globes Jewelry Roundup

The rain couldn't drown out the dazzling jewelry fashion at the 2010 Golden Globes tonight, and while the red carpet started off slow with lots of stars who opted for little or no jewelry - the showstoppers arrived just in time to save this jewelry hound from hyperventilating.

If 2009 Golden Globe jewelry was about the statement necklace, 2010 was all about the statement earring. Tassels, topaz, and tear-drops were big winners with Julianne Moore in emerald Bulgari beauties, Lea Michele in more emerald teardrops, Courtney Cox in black sapphires designed by Ofira Schwartz. Stunning!

and Kate Hudson and Meryl Streep in tassled elegance, among MANY other earring showstoppers.

Despite rumors to the contrary (and the Julianne Moore emerald forest), diamond jewelry won big over color this year with stunners like Sandra Bullock and Jennifer Garner in diamond danglers...

Chloe Sevigny and Tina Fey in diamond cluster earrings;

Penelope Cruz and Maggie Gylenhaal in simple diamond drops;

and Drew Barrymore in icy Lorraine Schwartz diamond studs (and one whopper of a moonstone statement ring - not pictured).

Icy cuffs complimented just about every look with the necklace a veritable no-show compared to years' past.

The boring-in-black awards go to Amy Adams in a jewelry-less snoresville ensemble and A-list queens, Jennifer Aniston and Julia Roberts - who seem to have an allergy to color on the red carpet these days. Step it up, sisters. We need you!

And the less-is-more award this year has to go to one Mariah Carey, who thankfully didn't have to speak this time around but brought out more cleavage and diamond overload than a Dolly Parton convention. Yikes.

What do you guys think of the Golden Globe jewelry extravaganza? Are Julianne's jewels fab or funky? Julia's statement necklace - cool or clunky? Weigh in!

Courtney Cox's Golden Globe Earrings

Update: InStyle updated their credit information on these stunning earrings. They are NOT topaz as was earlier reported but (gasp!) black sapphires designed by Ofira Schwartz. Wowza!

The jewelry hounds are buzzing about another jaw-dropper of a red carpet earring worn by Cougar Queen, Courtney Cox. According to InStyle, the stunning center stone is topaz (can you imagine if they were champagne diamonds?).

Anywho, stay tuned for designer info when buzz builds more tomorrow. In the meantime, back to the show!

Julianne Moore's Golden Globe Emeralds

Update: I was able to confirm that yes, indeed, these are the very same emerald earrings Julianne Moore wears in the Bulgari campaign. All $3 million dollars worth! Holy jaw drop!

Well, jewelry hounds - we have another emerald earring red carpet jaw-dropper. Julianne Moore just showed on the 2010 Golden Globe red carpet with (what I assume) are the Bulgari emerald earrings she wears in their latest campaign. And, as I expected, they are even MORE magnificent than Angelina Jolie's emerald earring stunners at the Oscars last year - if that's possible.

These Bulgari masterpieces are 115 carats (!) of pure Colombian emerald bliss, folks. I die!

Stay tuned for more Golden Globe coverage...the A-listers are still on their way!
