Michael Jackson Steals James Brown's Spotlight -- at Funeral!

It was near pandemonium during the Godfather of Soul's final viewing when Michael Jackson entered the James Brown Arena. The packed house screamed as the reclusive King of Pop stopped by to pay his respects with Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. "James Brown is my greatest inspiration, ever since I was a small child," said Jackson, who wore a black leather suit and dark sunglasses. "When I saw him move, I was mesmerized. I've never seen a performer perform like James Brown, and right then and there, I knew that was exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life." He then bent down and kissed Brown's forehead.

Julia Roberts and husband Danny Moder are reportedly expecting a third child, says Page Six, and their latest babe will be coming next summer. The couple already have twins, Phinnaeus and Hazel, delivered after a difficult pregnancy, according to the Post. Of course, with a baby coming (no word on whether it's a boy or a girl), Julia's work schedule could get a lot more difficult. She's got a Mike Nichols movie ("Charlie Wilson's War") and has signed on to "The Friday Night Knitting Club" for 2007.

Year in Review

Year In Review: 2006
...And what a year it was. Everywhere I read, people are writing "End of Year Lists" so I have decided to do a list of my own for this blog. I have always used this blogsite more like a non-private diary/journal of my life during and post-Project Runway, so when I get old and retire to Palm Springs with my hand-picked pool boy, I can look back at these crazy and exciting times with a huge "Uncle Nick" smile.
Everywhere I go, the NUMBER ONE QUESTION people ask me, whether it is at an airport, at a hotel lobby, while shopping, or waiting for the bathroom at a bar, is always "What have you been up to?" Now, I can tell them to go to this blogsite and read my "Year In Review".

JANUARY: I returned to designing my line, Nikolaki, in Los Angeles as well as teaching at FIDM, just as it was before I did the show. My season was in full swing and featured my favorite episode, "All Dolled Up". Much to the delight of my unsuspecting friends and family, I win this challenge which concludes with having a "My Scene Barbie" with my name, sold at Toys 'R' Us across the nation as well as on EBay! My second favorite episode, the "Nicky Hilton Challenge", also was shown during this time, and soon afterwards, I am designing a red carpet gown for "Desperate Housewives" actress, Brenda Strong for the Screen Actor's Guild Awards (SAG). The violet-colored bias-cut silk charmeuese gown subsequently ends up in several "Best Dresses of 2006 Awards Season", much to my delight.

FEBRUARY: A sad, yet exciting month for me. I was "Auf'ed" from Season Two of "Project Runway". I remember it as if it was yesterday: I was actually filming the "Reunion Episode" in New York the night my final episode aired. My cell phone was vibrating non-stop as I sat patiently answering questions from the unflappable Tim Gunn and the gorgeous Heidi Klum. All I wanted to do was hide under a Manhattan rock and go hibernate.

All that changed when I received a phone call from NBC and Bravo executives, asking me if I would like to fly to Torino, Italy to do a "fashion segment" on the Olympic Figure Skating Costumes. Needless to say, after I hung up, I ran around my studio like a "chicken with its head cut off", from the excitement. I flew to Italy and spent two weeks filming 2 seperate segments for NBC and USA Networks as well as enjoyed some "down time" visiting cities such as Milan for some shopping, of course.

Towards the latter part of this month, I was also asked to participate in the Chicago Casting/Judging for Season 3 of "Project Runway". From that casting, we picked Kayne Gillespie, who went on to become a "fan favorite".

MARCH: The highlight of this month was when I was asked to design the "Awareness Green Ribbon/Pin" for the Latin Billboard Awards , and its sponsor, Heineken for the Celia Cruz Foundation. And I got a trip to Miami and South Beach, to boot. Last year, Cuban-American designer, Narciso Rodriguez designed the ribbons . I designed two separate ribbons: A "Bling-Bling" one, featuring a sterling silver pin, with emerald-colored Swarovski crystals, which was worn by Latin-fusion band, Ozomatli. The simpler one, which was worn by all the artists attending the award show, was made of green satin with a red star, simulating the Heineken logo.

JUNE: Frontier's Magazine, a Southern California publication geared to the LGBT community signed me on as their "Style Guy". I began writing bi-monthly articles "for the gay guy", on everything from "Femme Is In", to "Why You Should Not Wear Black To A Commitment Ceremony". I would soon be writing a lot more.

JULY: Season 3 of "Project Runway" had just debuted and I got a call from People Magazine to write a weekly blog for their sister website, People.com. I began giving my funny yet insightful take on each week's episodes in a blog titled, "The Inside Dish With Nick Verreos". Soon afterward, Bravotv.com asked me to have these recaps be featured in their site as well. They were so well received that I consequently signed on to do a bi-monthly blog on their "Fashion Forward" section. I was glad to discover that I loved writing but at the same time, was surprised at the amount of time (HOURS!) a seemingly simple 500-word article can take. Needless to say, I have newfound respect for writers and bloggers alike.

July was also "Pageant Month" for me. I designed the gown that "Access Hollywood's" Nancy O'Dell wore to host the "Miss Universe Pageant" in Los Angeles. The gown was a black paillete-embroidered lace over baby-blue silk, in a "High-low" silhouette, featuring that one detail everyone makes fun of me for: The Fishtail Hem. I also designed the canary-yellow silk charmeuse dress that Tamiko Nash, "Miss California" and Tara Conner's ("Miss USA") First Runner Up, as well as a navy-and-white flower print gown for Brook Lee who was "Miss Universe 1997". I dubbed it my "Miss Universe" coup of dresses.

To cap this busy month, I debuted my line, Nikolaki, at Emmett McCarthy's fabulous Nolita boutique, EMc2, along with Season 2 alumni designers, winner Chloe Dao and Kara Janx and made a trip to Seattle, Washington to attend and host the Student Finale Show for that city's International Academy of Design and Technology(IADT).

AUGUST/SEPTEMBER: I attended the GLAAD(Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) Media Awards at the Kodak Theater, along with Santino Rice, Andrae Gonzalo, and Tim Gunn. Soon afterwards, I flew to San Francisco to actually present the "Outstanding Spanish-Language Newspaper Article" Award at that city's GLAAD Media Awards, hosted by Meghan Mullally and Carson Kressley. I also flew to Chicago to host a wonderful and successful fundraiser and fashion show for the ALMA Foundation. Since then, I have also made appearances and presentations for various other worthwhile foundations such as the Trevor Project and the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center, hopefully bringing attention and showcasing the positive work they do.

In September, I went back to New York City for NY Olympus Fashion Week, to attend the "Project Runway" Finale Fashion Show as well as Jay McCarroll's debut at the tents. I took advantage of my time in NY by joining Emmett, Chloe, Tim and other "Project Runway" designers in another successful Trunk Show and shopping event at Nolita's EMc2.

OCTOBER: Bravo's Top Chef Season2 premiered and I was contacted to design the "Top Chef Apron" that was to be sold on Bravo's website, Bravotv.com.

October was also the month of Los Angeles Fashion Week and in lieu of showing my line(I had previously three years ago had my fashion show at the Smashbox Fashion Week tents), I co-hosted(along with actress Garcelle Beauvais) the "GenArt Fresh Faces In Fashion" at the Santa Monica Airport's Barker Hanger. I also received the honor to present the West Coast Director of GenArt an award for excellence at the second annual Los Angeles Fashion Awards.

I also received an exciting opportunity from one of the nation's top dress and sportswear manufacturer, Windsor Fashions. They asked me to design a capsule "Nick Verreos for Windsor Fashions" collection of cocktail and prom dresses . Finally, I thought, every 16-18 year-old girl all over the country can get a piece of "Uncle Nick" at a fraction of my typical $2000 Red Carpet Gown price. The exclusive collection will be launched in early 2007 and sold in all their 50+ stores as well as on their windsorstore.com website.

During this time, I also made a return visit to Seattle, for an appearance that coincided with the Season Finale of "Project Runway".

To cap this crazy month of October, I also did a "Live From The Red Carpet" at Heidi Klum's Annual Halloween Party, that was held in Hollywood for the very first time.

NOVEMBER/DECEMBER: I filmed some segments for several TV shows, including E!Entertainment's "30 Most Outrageous Celebrity Feuds of 2006". I also got back on an airplane and flew to the heart of the Midwest, to attend, host and judge their first ever "Project Runway" event and fashion show at the University of Kansas.

Subsequently, I ended the year with a spiritual and runway-Diva zenith by filming a funny "Behind The Scenes" segment titled "Panty Raid with Nick Verreos" at the 2006 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show at the Kodak Theater. I still cannot decide what was better: Dancing with Supermodel Karolina Kurkova, or getting a whole choir to do an impromptu accapella rendition of the final song of the fashion show in the elevator with me. You guys can view the video and decide for yourself. Happy New Year and thanks for being such an inspirational part of 2006.

Christina, Gives Diddy Girls, 2X the Baby Love

Since Christina Aguilera knows what a girl wants, the pop diva sent a giant gift basket of baby items for Diddy's newborn twin girls, D'Lila Star and Jessie James

Aguilera contacted baby boutique Petit Tresor on Tuesday and had over $1000 worth of girly things shipped to the music mogul's mansion. Merry Christina-mas!

The basket, which included two of every item for Diddy's kiddies, consisted of frog slippers, hand-embroidered clothing sets, musical teddy bears, pink cherry shoes, chenille pillows, mobiles, and leather diaper bags which retail for $340 each.

Beside being friends, X and P share a business relationship; Christina is featured on Diddy's latest single "Tell Me," while his girl group, Danity Kane, will open for Aguilera on her upcoming tour.

Diddy and girlfriend Kim Porter welcomed the twins on December 21. Per US Mag

Paris & Britney Split: Paris Calls Brit "The Animal"

They’ll always have Vegas! Paris Hilton and Britney Spears (who struck up an unlikely kinship in late November, following Spears’ separation from hubby Kevin Federline, 28) are on the rocks, and it looks like Spears, 25, was the heartbreaker.

Weeks ago, “Britney called Paris and said she had decided not to be seen in public with her ‘for now,’” a Hilton source tells Us.

Though the pair were once practically joined at the hip (they previously had a sleepover in Las Vegas and were spied dancing on banquettes at West Hollywood’s Hyde), things went sour after Spears took heat in the media for partying while leaving her two kids, Sean, 15 months, and Jayden, 3 months, at home.

“Britney told Paris that it’s not personal,” says an insider.

But beware a Hilton scorned. According to another source, the heiress, 25, didn’t invite Spears to her December 18 Christmas party and now refers to her ex-pal as “Animal.” Why?

“Britney doesn’t think about things before she does them. She just acts out,” says the source.

(Spears’ rep couldn’t be reached for comment. Says Hilton’s camp: “Her friendships are her own business.”)

WIDOW EVICTED FROM BROWN HOME

The widow of late soul legend JAMES BROWN has been evicted from the couple's South Carolina home - with lawyers claiming the pair were never "legally married". TOMI RAE HYNIE was denied entry to Brown's Beech Island mansion on Christmas day (25DEC06), just hours after the star's death. Locks had been changed and the security staff had been ordered by Brown's lawyers and accountants to keep former backing singer Hynie from the house. Brown and Hynie married in 2001, however Hynie was already married to another man at the time - but insists her first marriage had been annulled before becoming Brown's fourth wife. She says, "(My first husband) was from Pakistan. He wanted to enter the US. I was young and desperate. "A judge told me I was never legally married." But legal representatives are alleging the Brown-Hynie marriage was not legal because of Hynie's previous nuptials - and have branded the 38-year-old merely "a houseguest of Mr Brown". BUDDY DALLAS, Brown's lawyer, said, "It's not a reflection on her as an individual. "I have not even been in the house nor will I until appropriate protocol is followed. "I suppose it would mean she was, from time to time, a guest in Mr Brown's home." James Brown died on 25 December. He was 73. 27/12/2006 12:38

MONIE LOVE FIRED AFTER ON AIR CONFRONTATION WITH YOUNG JEEZY

Just weeks after an on-air confrontation with Young Jeezy, female rapper-turned-radio host Monie Love is no longer working at Philadelphia's 100.3 The Beat (WPHI-FM).

Sources from the radio station confirmed that Monie (born Simone Wilson) is no longer employed there. Her departure from the station follows on the heels of her December 7 interview with Young Jeezy where the two argued vehemently over whether hip-hop is dead. During that conversation Jeezy also questioned Nas' street cred. The argument ended with Jeezy storming out of the studio.

It's speculated that the incident is the real reason behind Love leaving her morning show post, representatives at the station were unwilling to confirm.

UNCENSORED TIMBERLAKE ‘SNL’ VIDEO AN INTERNET HIT: NBC’s Web site ran explicit version, which of course ended up on YouTube.

*Last weekend, Justin Timberlake hosted “Saturday Night Live” and appeared in a special Christmas-themed “SNL digital short that has taken the Internet by storm.

The skit features J.T. and cast member Andy Samberg in a music video of their tune that spoofs the R&B look and sound of the early 90s. The song, “D*** in a Box,” was aired during Saturday’s broadcast with the D-word edited out. However, NBC.com ran the uncensored version (featured below, but not safe for work), which has since ended up on YouTube and has made its way to an untold number of e-mail in-boxes.

Us Exclusive: Michael Jackson's New House

Michael Jackson, 48, has moved into a house in Las Vegas and plans to live there while working on a deal to do a live show on the Strip, a la Celine Dion, a source tells Us Weekly. A veil-clad Jacko arrived at McCarron airport's private hangar on Saturday afternoon, eager to take up residence in his new pad. The gated Spanish-style mansion (featured above) is located in a custom-home community on the city's west side, and features a classic stucco red tile roof.

Las Vegas entertainer Jeff Beacher, creator of Beacher's Madhouse at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, confirms Jackson's arrival in Vegas. "He wants to make his comeback here,” the LV entertainer tells Us. "Jackson wants this to be his new Neverland."

Sources tell the Las Vegas Review Journal that Jackson's friend, gaming dealmaker Jack Wishna, was instrumental in having the pop icon move back to the United States.

Wishna confirmed Jackson's move to the Journal Review, saying "We are working on several projects."

Calling Jackson "one of the greatest entertainers in the world," Wishna said the singer "is poised to return to the top of the entertainment world soon."

After being acquitted of child molestation charges in June 2005, Jackson left his famed personal theme park, Neverland Ranch, and relocated to Bahrain, an island in the Persian Gulf, along with his son, Prince Michael I, 9, daughter, Paris, 8, and son Prince Michael II, 4. He moved his brood to Ireland in June 2006 where they have been living with Irish dance sensation Michael Flatley in his castle in County Cork

GODFATHER OF SOUL JAMES BROWN DIES AT 73

ATLANTA - James Brown, the dynamic, pompadoured "Godfather of Soul," whose rasping vocals and revolutionary rhythms made him a giant of R&B and an inspiration for rap, funk and disco, died early Christmas morning. He was 73. Brown was hospitalized with pneumonia at Emory Crawford Long Hospital on Sunday and died around 1:45 a.m. Monday, said his agent, Frank Copsidas of Intrigue Music.
Mr. Brown's condition did not seem to be life-threatening, Mr. Copsidas said. On the contrary, after cancelling performances planned for mid-week, Mr. Brown on Sunday night got his doctor's approval for going ahead with a show on Saturday in New Jersey and one on New Year's Eve at B.B. King's nightclub in New York.

What a girl wants for Christmas

Hey, Barney's Girl and I are going to take a 2 week break from the blog. Both of us are going to be on family vacation, celebrating new year with friends and head back to college in Jan. But before the break, I'm going to leave you with a list of fabulous Christmas ideas -basically what I would like to recieve, and I'm sure many of you would at least like one thing on the list.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Girly beauty items. Girls always need eyeliners. Afterall, eyeliner is essential to some people's day looks and most people's night looks. And I absolutely love MAC's powerpoint eye pencil.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Brush cleaner is another (but not obvious) must to one's beauty collection. Please do remember to clean your makeup brushes regularly!

Speaking of brushes, my sister was just saying how she would love a set of brushes -another essential to one's beauty collection.

Moving onto other girly things, as inspired by BG's list of essential bags, the LV Speedy 25 is a popular and very practical bag for a girl to own.

Another cool bag is the Chloe Paddington clutch -good for day and night, and effortlessly chic.

I love classic jewelry, and the first that comes into mind is Tiffany & Co's basic silver collection. These Elsa Peretti earrings are so classic and versatile. Hmm... maybe I should get them for myself.

The MacBook is SO small and cute, although I don't quite like it's keyboard and function inside. For more a more impressive laptop, get the MacBook Pro -much sleeker and impressive. I stood in the Apple store playing with these Macs for two hours a few weekends ago when my old laptop died, but ended up opting for a regular laptop instead.

Sony cybershot DSC-N2 -it's got 10.1 mega-pixels and a huge 3.0 LCD touch screen. And very importantly, it's cute!

Get your friend a DVD set of your favourite TV show that your friend hasn't watched before. I totally recommend Veronica Mars -it's one of the coolest and most underated show on TV.

Lastly, with more than 20mil viewers in the States each new episode, you can't go wrong with a Grey's Anatomy calender, (unless you know your friend hates the show.) A new year of staring at the entertaining cast of GA and Mc Hotties!

Merry Christmas and have a stylish (refer to earlier posts) new year people! See you in 2007!

Uncle Nick Gettin' Jiggy

FW06 Beauty Trend: The Smoky Eyes

Yes, I know that we are technically at the end of the FW06 season, but I've saved this very gothic look for the festive season. I absolutely love this season's gothic look. We're not talking about high school emo/ rock chick/ gothic look here, we're talking the sophisticated one.

Rochas had chimney sweepers as the inspiration of the collection, including the super smoky eyes which looks like a lot of shades of matte black and charcoal grey.

Alessandro Dell'Acqua -Sparkling and fluid-like black. The whole eyelid looks literally all black.

Marc by Marc Jacobs and Valentino -Marc's (left) eye makeup is soo funky -it looks like the makeup artist used a black eyeliner and drew random lines all over the model's eyelids (which I'm sure were well-planned)! On the other hand, Valentino has got the very sophisticated look, with mainly dark eyeliner at the bottom, complete with red lipstick. A bit too mature for me, but maybe some of you would like to try it.

Nars eyeshadow -Pile on the sparkling black, artistically of course. For those who want a bit of colour, dark purple is great for most skin tones.

Nars liquid eyeliner -Lots and lots (and hope that it doesn't run off throughout the night!) If you want the smudged eyeliner effect, then opt for pencil eyeliner instead. I usually recommend MAC's black eyeliner to my friends.

And lastly, mascara! From experience, Diorshow gives the most dramatic effect, although it did smudge a bit on long nights.

If you think all this black is waay too dramtic and dark for you, then you can try dark brown. See how Rachel Bilson looks mega-gorgeous in dark brown smoky eyes? (But then again, she looks gorgeous in most looks.)

I've always thought Christmas as a family event and New Year countdown as a friends' event. Personally, I think this look is a bit too extreme for family Christmas dinners, but I'm seriously considering doning this look for New Year. Now all I have to do is master the art of putting on all that black eye makeup without looking like a panda and find myself a super pale lip colour!

WE REMEMBER MIKE EVANS: TV veteran, best known as the first Lionel on ‘The Jeffersons’ and co-creator of ‘Good Times,’ died earlier this month at age

Feud Between Trump and O'Donnell Escalates

The catfight between Donald Trump and Rosie O'Donnell, which started when O'Donnell dissed the real estate mogul on The View on Wednesday, continues apace.

O'Donnell, a cohost of the ABC morning chat show, criticized Trump's Tuesday press conference, in which he announced that he is letting hard-partying Miss America Tara Conner keep her crown. O'Donnell said that Trump's statement that he was giving the pageant winner a "second chance" annoyed her "on a multitude of levels."

"He's the moral authority?" 44-year-old O'Donnell challenged, after flipping her hair to mimic Trump's famed fluffy comb-over.

"Left the first wife, had an affair, left the second wife, had an affair. Had kids both times, but he's the moral compass for 20-year-olds in America," the comedian-turned-actress said to roars of audience laughter. "Donald, sit and spin, my friend."

Rosie also brought up Trump's financial past -- saying he went bankrupt and used his father's inheritance to dig himself out of bankruptcy, which Trump denies. She also called him a "snake-oil salesman."

She said, "This is not a self-made man."

O'Donnell admitted that she expected him to sue her, but taunted “He’ll probably be bankrupt by that time so I won’t have to worry.”

The thrice-married mogul has, indeed, threatened to sue the talk-show host - and to have one of his friends steal away O'Donnell's lesbian partner Kelli Carpenter O’Donnell.

“She ought to be careful because I’ll send one of my friends to pick up her girlfriend and I think it would be very easy,” Trump, 60, warned.

"This woman is totally out of control," he told the New York Daily News. "I'm worth billions of dollars, and I have to listen to this fat slob?"

Trump also lashed out at O'Donnell on the television entertainment program, The Insider, ridiculing everything from her appearance to her former eponymous television talk show and magazine.

"Rosie attacks me personally? I know her fairly well because her show failed. She didn't retire. She didn't get the ratings! Her magazine called Rosie was a total disaster," he said.

"She's out of her mind. I will probably sue Rosie for a number of reasons. I'm worth a lot of money. She doesn't tell the facts," he added.

On Wednesday night, Rosie copied and pasted onto her personal blog an excerpt from Wikipedia, an online free-content encyclopedia, which detailed Trump’s past financial woes. At the bottom of the entry she wrote – in her typical haiku style :

loving the wiki
i use it
do u

i will let u know if the donald sues me
or if kelli leaves me for one of his pals
dont u find him charming
