Pamela Anderson's Golden Globes

Gold statues don't often come in the guise of a bikini-clad pop icon, but artist Marc Quinn begs to differ.

The popular sculptor created twin life-size Pamela Anderson statues out of polished bronze for his controversial new exhibit that showcases people 'who have transformed their outward appearance to match how they are feeling inside', according to the UK's Coventry Telegraph.

The Baywatch beauty and recent Dancing with the Stars cast-off told The Guardian that she loves Quinn and his work,

"I didn't even ask what he wanted to do with me. I would have done anything." (insert inappropriate snickering here...)

Of his inspiration, Quinn said, "What Pamela has done is use surgery and transformation within the mainstream cultural context, whereas everyone else in the show has struck out on their own."

Two large Michael Jackson heads are also on display - one white, one black - as are statues of porn stars and the 'woman turned man who gave birth to a baby' dude.

Quinn is also known for his 2008 solid gold statue of Kate Moss in a contorted yoga pose called 'Sphinx' worth $2.6 million (click here for more on that little ditty).

Kate Moss Is The Tops

Long lines and throngs of photogs waited in Soho today as the UK’s popular Topshop clothing chain opened its doors for the first time in the US.

Topshop, owned by British billionaire, Sir Philip Green, completely gutted an historic four-story building to create their New York flagship store, and by the looks of the crowds winding around the big city block they’ll have plenty of takers – despite the lingering recession.

“You’ve seen a few retailers collapse, but I think the big people will ride out the storm,” Green, 57, said in an interview while wandering the 25,000-square-foot New York store. “People haven’t stopped shopping. The young fashion market has still remained pretty resilient during these difficult times.”

Topshop is known for mixing designer duds with your run-of-the-mill ready-to-wear at price points we mere mortals can afford. Call it a step up from H & M, with Kate Moss as its Karl Lagerfeld or Stella McCartney.

The New York store has 32 changing rooms, a DJ booth, and a shoe lounge and stocks everything from cocktail dresses to $70 “skinny jeans” as well as jewelry and lingerie.

The divine Miss Moss made a brief appearance to christen the store today and celebrated with the city’s fashion elite last night at Soho’s signature hotspot, Balthazar.

Wearing pieces from her Topshop collection and a pair of chandelier diamond earrings, Moss rubbed elbows with the likes of Jennifer Lopez, who wore white with her Lorraine Schwartz diamond danglers, and singer Jennifer Hudson, who performed for the dinnergoers in a sequined Topshop number.

That Sir Philip doesn’t spare any expense. And it’s no wonder. He and his wife, based in Monaco, shared an estimated fortune of 4.3 billion pounds in 2007, according to the U.K.’s Sunday Times Rich List.

Solid Gold Meets Heroin Chic

Move over Rue McClanahan, there’s a new Golden Girl in town. The UK’s Independent reports that a 110-pound, solid gold statue entitled ‘Siren’ will debut at the renown British Museum on October 4th. The subject? Kate. Moss. And we thought gold chocolate, gold facials, and gold doggy beds were a little wacky.

The runway’s golden girl is the muse of artist, Marc Quinn, who created a solid gold replica of the supermodel in some kind of yoga pose. The piece is worth $2.8 million and is thought to be the world's largest gold statue since the time of ancient Egypt. Leave it to Kate to give Cleopatra a run for her money.

"I thought the next thing to do would be to make a sculpture of the person who's the ideal beauty of the moment," Quinn said of his creation. "But even Kate Moss doesn't live up to the image." Tell us about it. Ms. Moss has thankfully not been in the headlines much since splitting with troubled rocker, Pete Doherty, but the image of her snorting that “white powdered substance” is perhaps the most lasting one to date.

The museum released only a close-up pic of the statue as a teaser, so we’re not sure what yoga pose dear Kate is immortalized in. Our money’s on Child’s Pose.

Kate Moss - A Diamond Ring - A Dead Cat - And A Missing Owner

Remember the case of the missing owner of a $40,000 Diamond Ring - they've been traced thanks to a lot of hard work by the jewelry store and they surreally honest finders of the ring.


The Stetzers found the diamond ring a parking lot of a Virginia Mall and traced it back to a local jewelers, Mervis Diamond Importers. The jewelers and the Stetzers advertised, investigated and tried every which way to return the ring to its rightful owner. Finally, yesterday, a happy Mark and Susan Brahms were reunited with their ring.


The Stetzers said the grateful couple gave them a reward, which they plan to donate to a charity.
If they hadn't found the owners, he and his wife had already decided to auction off the ring, valued at $40,000, and give the money to charity. It was never theirs to keep, Stetzer said.
"We didn't earn it," he said. "That's not the way I was brought up; my wife neither."



In other diamond news, bad boy rocker, Peter Doherty is planning to have the ashes of his cat Shelley made into a diamond ring. According to UK Now Magazine, he's reportedly commissioned the piece from Lifegem and is planning to give the sparkler to his ex, spindly super-model Kate Moss. Apparently the cat was her favourite pet when they dated last year. I'm sure wearing the carbonized ashes of a cat is just what she dreams of.
